Stories I'm Reading

Ron Paul hauled in $4.2 million yesterday. You notice how TV media can't bring themselves to cover this fact? That's a million dollars more than Mitt Romney raised on his best day, and Romney got most of that cash from his own pocket!

This year,
Brazil is going to become 100% Energy Independent. In fact, it's happening ... oh ... right about now.

By the way, here are some stats I gleaned from Bloomberg news story (sorry, not on the web)...

  1. Demand for ethanol made from corn willaccount for 5.9 percent of global gasoline by 2015, up from3.5 percent in 2007. Ethanol's market share will climb to 6.3 percent by 2020, based on current technology.

  2. Corn has had a correlation of 0.67 against the price of crude oil the past month, up from 0.22 since the start of the year, while soybeans had a correlation of 0.68, up from 0.36. A figure of 1 would indicate the two commodities move in tandem at the same rate.

  3. Currently, 131 ethanol distilleries operate in the U.S.,with a capacity of about 6.5 billion gallons. An additional 73 are under construction and 10 are expanding, according to the Renewable Fuels Association.

  4. U.S. biodiesel production from vegetable oils and fats may rise as much as 40 percent to 350 million gallons in 2007 from 250 million last year. There are now 165 plants with capacity to produce 1.85 billion gallons of biodiesel a year inthe U.S., up from 88 at the end of last year.

The Strange Destiny and Sudden Death of Atlanta, Georgia. Funny, I always thought it was Las Vegas that would be the first American city to run out of water.
