Get Your Weekend On

I must say, I love Brazil. I don't know what they're saying, but I do love it so.

In a more serious turn, here is the next in wonderful history series by EmperorHadrian on
Constitutional Convention and Roman Direct Democracy; US Constitution.

Velociraptors -- the killer dinosaurs featured larger than life in the book and movie Jurassic Park, had feathers. I like this line: "If animals like velociraptor were alive today our first impression would be that they were just very unusual looking birds."

Speaking of movies, I highly recommend renting a movie called Crank. I saw it last night. This 2006 movie stars Jason Statham, the balding tough guy who can also be seen taking an excellent turn through the edge of the Underworld in "The Transporter."

In Crank, Statham plays Chev Chelios, a hitman for a drug gang, a hitman who wants to retire. But one of his enemies catches up with him first, injecting him with a lethal "Chinese cocktail" that is going to stop his heart in an hour.

The only way to slow down the progress of the drug is for Chelios to pump as much adrenalin through his body as possible. And that leads to Chelios embarking on a romper-stomper, bullet-whizzing, hand-chopping, car-smashing, naked-motorcycle riding spree through Los Angeles. Kudos to country singer Dwight Yoakam for a nice turn as a sympathetic doctor, and special high marks to the writer/director team of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor.

Crank is absolutely over the top and hilarious fun ... for guys. However, I can tell you this isn't one for my wife, and might not be one for yours. One of the negative reviews on Amazon.com says: "Mindless, plot-less and pointless." Yeah, well anyone who picks up the box of this movie knows what they are getting into. There is a plot, there is a point (redemption and revenge) and there is a lot of very good, twisted thinking behind this movie. Anyone who calls it "mindless" might want to go watch The Color Purple ... again.
